This Special Issue of the Nixene Journal is about the state of graphene technology and markets in the Water Industry. It represents curated content from the Nixene Journal between December 2017 and November 2020. Much of the work reported in this Special issue on the water industry features the development of graphene-enhanced membranes (particularly graphene oxide) for water filtration, purification and treatment. By ‘tuning such membranes it is potentially possible to create applications that have the ability to be ‘selective in their permeability. This is clearly an application of great interest, the challenge will be to create both cost effective and practical applications. An interesting area of application that also seems to be developing is that of the treatment of oil polluted water which has great potential for the future.
